Scotts Company Announces Territory Managers Accreditation

MARYSVILLE, OHIO (April 16, 2007) – When they are not out in the field selling and providing their expertise to growers and distributors, several members of the Scotts Company Professional Business Group sales team have also kept busy becoming certified by the Department of Agriculture to provide continuing education unit (CEU) classes to licensed professionals.

Scotts certified CEU teachers include Territory Managers Tim Brubaker, Van Donnan, Don Furterer, Ward Gunter, Chris Lufkin, Bob Santana, Karen Stringer, Al Toops and Phil Trump. They are accredited to teach in a variety of states on an assortment of topics such as preventative weed control, controlled release fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, nutrition/plant protection safety and best management practices. Scotts has the capability of servicing numerous industries, including greenhouse, sod, landscape and ornamental.

Generally, a CEU is defined as a set amount of hours of participation in a recognized continuing education program, with qualified instruction and sponsorship. CEU records are widely used to provide evidence of completion of continuing education requirements mandated by certification bodies, professional societies, or governmental licensing boards. The records also provide employers with information on training pertinent to particular occupations.

For example, those professionals with a pesticide license for applying agrichemicals at nurseries, tree farms, greenhouses and landscapes have requirements that must be met yearly; either receive 16 years of continuing education or re-take the pesticide certification test. The CEU program keeps applicators in touch with developing technologies and management practices.
